Rebecca Osam Cheers Launch of Government's Free Sanitary Pads Program
Rebecca Osam, the CEO of Reflo Company Ltd. and a prominent champion for menstrual well-being, attended the nationwide introduction of the Free Sanitary Pads Program organized by the Ministry of Education along with the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection.
The program was inaugurated by President John Dramani Mahama on April 24, 2025, with the objective of supplying free sanitary pads to more than two million female students attending public primary and high schools throughout Ghana. This initiative represents a significant nationwide push to decrease girl student absences and tackle menstrual poverty.
For Rebecca Osam, whose "Pads for 1,000 Girls" initiative—conducted alongside The Florence Mensah Foundation—has already made a significant difference in the lives of numerous underprivileged young girls, this launch represented an intensely personal and rewarding milestone.
Following the event, she commented, "I've always felt strongly about making sure young girls can obtain high-quality and cost-effective sanitary items. Seeing this nationwide dedication was both touching and profoundly inspiring. It’s clear that Ghana is making substantial progress in nurturing its upcoming generation of leaders."
Under Rebecca’s guidance, Reflo Company Ltd. has pioneered the production of cost-effective yet superior quality sanitary pads and spearheaded discussions around menstrual health in Ghana. Her ongoing initiatives to distribute free sanitary products and promote educational opportunities for young girls resonate strongly with the wider goals set forth by the government during the event.
The national launch, presided over by Ga Mantse Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, gathered important participants such as high-ranking officials from the Ghana Education Service, education directors, teachers, students, and policy makers.
President Mahama stressed that supplying sanitary pads would represent an ongoing monthly pledge, guaranteeing that "Not a single girl in Ghana will skip school due to menstruation."
Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister of Education, along with Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey from the Ministry for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, emphasized how this program could help eliminate period shame and provide girls with the respect and liberty they truly deserve.
As Rebecca Osam keeps advocating for menstrual equity and girls' empowerment, her participation in this significant national event underscores her crucial part in crafting a future where every girl has the opportunity to learn, develop, and take charge without obstacles.
