Nduka, Ismail Honor Remo Fans with NPFL Title Win
The captains of Remo Stars, Junior Nduka and Sodiq Ismail, have dedicated the team's inaugural championship win in the Nigeria Premier Football League to their supporters. The PUNCH reports.
The Sky Blue Stars secured their inaugural NPFL championship in front of their supporters in Ikenne after defeating Niger Tornadoes with a score of 1-0 during the 35th match day.
Olamilekan Adedayo, who came on as a second-half substitute, once again made an impact for the team by scoring a crucial late goal. This breakthrough led to celebrations at the venue after their opponents had kept them at bay for 83 minutes.
Pondering over the triumph of clinching the league title with RemoStars, both Nduka and Ismail—products of the club’s youth system—recognized the shared endeavor that led to their victory.
"It’s an incredible sensation for me because, throughout the years, we've been assembling the team and working tirelessly to ensure we eventually emerge as champions. Now that we’ve achieved it, this sense of accomplishment will stay with me forever," Nduka stated to PUNCH Sports Extra.
The captain expressed gratitude to their supporters in a video posted by the team, saying, "We appreciate your unwavering support throughout the years."
Ismail, nicknamed the assist king, also stated, "I will congratulate myself. I will extend my congratulations to the team as well, and to the supporters—without whom we wouldn’t have succeeded. Huge congrats go out to all of our fans."
“Issam mentioned that even before the season began, we envisioned ourselves winning the league. With the effort we invested and the support from our fans, I believe we accomplished what we set out to do.”
Nduka began his journey at the club’s academy and came through the ranks at Remo to make his NPFL debut in 2021 when they returned to the topflight.
Back in October 2024, he became one of only a few players to reach 100 appearances for the NPFL when they contributed to a tense 2-1 victory against past champions Rangers International FC in Ikenne.
Once he became a centurion, he was eager to make his extended time with the team matter this season, particularly since they fell just short of winning the title in the previous two seasons.
"We remain works in progress; we haven’t reached our destination just yet. This isn’t a sprint but rather a marathon. We’ll continue to strive and maintain consistency so that we can achieve success this season," Nduka stated to PUNCH Sports Extra in October 2024.
