Russians Unveil Contemporary Iranian Art in Exclusive Exhibition

Pakistan, April 10 -- More than 60 works by contemporary Iranian artists, including pieces by world-renowned master Reza Derakshani, were showcased in the Persian section of the Art Russia exhibition in Moscow.

Artworks by Iranian artists were showcased throughout three booths, with one booth exclusively featuring Derakshani’s creations. His vibrant paintings, evocative of classic Persian rugs, merge Iran’s cultural legacy, historical influences, and his distinctive artistic methods. In Iranian tradition, horses hold considerable importance, a motif often depicted in the artist's works. The exhibit featured three notable pieces from this collection: "They Chase Turquoise," "They Chase Blue," and "They Chase the Pink."

The exhibit showcased two more displays featuring creations by various modern-day artists. An Iranian creator named Oria intricately stitched her personal narrative into her artwork using fabrics, threads, and components derived from conventional attire. Traditionally, these designs are transferred from older outfits to newer ones. Her work incorporated tiny mirrors, which are commonly attached to clothing as ornamental features. According to Larisa Udovichenko, who curates the contemporary art fair, this marked the inaugural appearance of the Persian segment at the show, garnering considerable attention among visitors.

"She mentioned that this exhibit is highly favored as not every visitor has familiarity with contemporary Iranian art, making it a great chance for many of their guests to gain insights into the nation’s cultural landscape." Another prevailing tendency within the realm of contemporary art involves performances. The Pakistani artist Shah Abdullah Alamee utilized paint on a golden background to depict lines from the poem titled "For the bloom of one branch is what we are." "In my performance piece,” he explained to TV BRICS, “I blend conventional forms experimentally through incorporating components such as Indo-Pakistani music along with Persian vocal renditions and Islamic calligraphy. This amalgamation crafts a profound sensory encounter—both visually striking and sonically enriching—that seamlessly merges ancient traditions with today’s artistic expressions via innovative compositions and gold leaf embellishments.”
