President Taye Hosts AUC Chairperson in Productive Talks

On April 9, 2025, Addis Ababa – President Taye Atske Selassie engaged in a productive conversation with the AUC Chairman, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, at the Presidential Office today.

The conversations centered around maintaining regional stability and safety, with an emphasis on the African Union’s conflict resolution initiatives in countries like South Sudan, Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Additionally, they addressed internal restructuring within the AU, particularly concerning fiscal independence and securing consistent financing for missions aimed at supporting peace.

Chairperson Youssouf of AUC affirmed President Taye about his dedication to cooperating with Ethiopia both as a fellow member and as the hosting nation.

President Taye expressed her commitment to collaborating closely between the Ethiopian government and the AU Commission, as confirmed to the chairperson.

The president likewise highlighted the significance of supporting the African Union’s main goals and initiatives, promoting robust cooperation as a host nation.

The chairperson highlighted the importance of establishing a robust collaboration with Ethiopia, considering its role both as a member state and as the host country.

"I feel privileged to have met His Excellency President Taye Atse Tekle Gebru. This visit was made because I am now serving as the chairperson of the African Union Commission," he stated.

He remembered his prior professional interaction with President Taye when they both served as foreign ministers, emphasizing how they worked together on matters of bilateral and pan-African significance.

"I primarily came here to express my respects and tributes to him... The meeting was highly productive. I gained numerous insights from our discussion," Youssouf emphasized.
