NRC Halts Warri-Itakpe Train Services After Engine Failure

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) Has halted train services on the Warri-Itakpe line because of a machinery issue with its engine.

A mechanical issue that happened around 1:30 PM on Wednesday resulted in more than 200 travelers being stuck.

According to an official from the NRC, the incident occurred approximately 14 kilometers away from Itakpe.

A senior official from NRC, speaking anonymously to The Nation, confirmed that passengers were transported via vehicles to Itakpe following the incident.

Before they evacuated, members of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Security Services, Civil Defence Corps, and local watchmen were sent to the region to strengthen security measures.

The official likewise verified that every vehicle which transported the trapped passengers reached Itakpe prior to 3:00 pm.

The halt in train services is detailed in an official announcement shared with The Nation.

The notification states: "Crucial Announcement for Train Staff and Riders";

We apologize for the inconvenience but have to announce the cancellation of: - This afternoon’s (Wednesday) train service from Itakpe to Warri, as well as tomorrow’s (April 10th, 2025) services WITS 01 and WITS 02.
