Future of computing will revolve around smart glasses and headsets

The future of computing will center around smart glasses and headsets driven by AI that can assist users with their everyday activities, Meta executives have suggested.

In the previous year, Meta introduced a novel set of augmented reality smart glasses called Orion. These glasses project digital icons and information into the wearer’s view, typically a feature seen primarily in bulkier mixed-reality headsets.

Alex Himel, who serves as a vice president at the technology company, noted that artificial intelligence (AI) is emerging as a crucial element driving the future capabilities of devices like Orion and comparable technologies—potentially enabling them to respond when users merely glance at an object.

Mr. Himel suggested that depending on digital replicas of tangible objects like televisions or photo frames might one day be commonplace.

"When discussing augmented reality, we're referring to viewing the real world and overlaying digital elements onto it, and demonstrating this possibility marks a significant achievement," he noted.
