Empowering Vulnerable Children: Free Food and Fun Activities Available Now!

A £1.4 million initiative will provide thousands of underprivileged children in North Yorkshire with complimentary holiday activities and meals.

The money from the The Department for Education (DfE) program tackles several issues encountered by underprivileged households when schools are closed.

Children who qualify will receive four hours of activities each day for four days over Easter, sixteen days throughout the summer break, and another four days during Christmas time, according to North Yorkshire Council.

Marie-Ann Jackson from the council stated that without the grant, these activities would not be accessible.

She mentioned that it would provide "free-of-charge activities and meals for children and families with limited income during times when free school meals are unavailable."

The scheme, known as FEAST in North Yorkshire This initiative is offered through a collaboration between the council and local community organizations and provides free spots for all children eligible for free school meals, until they reach the age of 16.

The Local Democracy Reporting Service mentioned that the grant would officially be approved during a gathering involving high-ranking council members and staff from the children and young people’s services, after which FEAST vouchers would be dispatched via email or SMS to qualifying households.

In 2021, following successful pilots conducted from 2018 to 2020, the government declared a funding commitment exceeding £200m each year For the program throughout the United Kingdom.
