Amrit Bharat Scheme Kicks Off: Redevlopment of 60 Railway Stations in Northeast Starts
Guwahati ( Assam ) [India], March 29 (ANI): As part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, renovation activities are currently progressing at 60 railway stations nationwide. North East Of these, 50 train stations are included. Assam have been selected.
Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, the CPRO of Northeast Frontier Railway, informed ANI that the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is aimed at revitalizing railway stations throughout India.
"In North East In total, 60 stations are undergoing redevelopment as part of this initiative. Assam Out of the 50 stations chosen for redevelopment, several are now at an advanced stage. We will begin putting these stations into service progressively, one after another.
These stations include Haiborgaon, Narengi, Jagiroadand, and Chaparmukh, along with various others undergoing redevelopment as part of this initiative. New features like elevators and escalators are also being introduced. Additionally, improvements such as approach roads, designated entry and exit points, parking areas, and amenities for disabled individuals—referred to here as 'divyangjan'—are being included," stated Kapil Kishore Sharma.
Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, who serves as the General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), recently carried out an extensive examination to assess the advancement of the current modernization efforts being undertaken at Narengi, Jagiroad, Chaparmukh, and Haibargaon stations as part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS).
Among these four stations are some of the 50 stations listed. Assam chosen for modification as part of the program.
As stated by the Northeast Frontier Railway, the redevelopment will introduce major enhancements, with projected investments amounting to Rs 30.95 crore for Narengi, Rs 31.18 crore for Jagiroad, Rs 31.87 crore for Chaparmukh, and Rs 14.94 crore for Haibargaon.
Altogether, 92 stations under the Northeast Frontier Railway area will undergo redevelopment as part of the ABSS project. The purpose of this effort is to improve travelers' experiences by fitting these stations with contemporary, high-tech facilities.
These infrastructure improvement projects for the stations have been geared towards converting them into contemporary, traveler-centric hubs.
The ABSS aims at improving passenger comfort, revamping the look of stations, and incorporating contemporary features like advanced waiting rooms, superior illumination, refined signages, cleaner restrooms, and easier navigation via refurbished circulation spaces.
The refurbishment of these stations is designed to improve the journey for travelers as part of an overarching plan to elevate Indian Railways to be a premier transport system globally.
Conversely, the Railway Ministry intends to transform Guwahati Railway Station into an IT center and a premier global facility.
"The Union Railway Minister recently disclosed plans to transform Guwahati Railway Station into an IT hub. This initiative includes constructing a multi-story building equipped with advanced amenities within a state-of-the-art terminal. Our aim is to finalize the design swiftly so that we may proceed directly to construction," stated Kapil Jhanwar Sharma. (ANI)
